employer adoption benefits

Hi all,

Would anyone mind sharing whether their employer provides adoption benefits? Also, if you could post your company size.

I work for one of the world's largest companies (40k + employees worldwide) and I find our adoption benefits to be pretty pathetic compared to our other benefits.

I'm trying to petition for increased benefits, and the more case studies I have the better.

Also, if you work in the computer, internet, networking, telecommunications industry, I would really benefit from having the name of your company too if you're willing to share. If you are, please send me a private message.

I'll go first...

Our company offers financial reimbursement up to $2500 max per adoption. No paid time off--only the FMLA 12-weeks unpaid.

Large (40,000 + employees) international company.

(FYI, if you're interested in doing this at your company, the Dave Thomas Foundation has a great information source:
http://www.adoptionfriendlyworkplace.org/ )

I work for a large retail company as a financial planner.

My company offers a $3000.00 benefit with no paid time off.

They have been very flexible in allowing me to carryover vacation time from last year and will allow me to work from home a few days if needed.

We have 24,000 employees.

Hope this helps!

No benefits for adoption...not even a day and no reimbursements. I only receive 12 weeks of FMLA (no pay).

$1B in sales pharmaceutical company, with international parent. Many people within my company have adopted.

I actually lobbied my employer for adoption benefits this time last year. I am proud to say that they listened to me, and my company now offers a $3000 reimbursement for adoption expenses. This is per adoption, per child. Should we adopt again, this reimbursement would apply. It doesn't matter if the adoption is domestic or international.

My company is a $500 million dollar company with about 1200 employees nationwide.

Guys, there are a LOT of companies out there that do not offer these kinds of benefits. It's sad, but true. Consider yourself lucky if you get them.

Hello,

I work for one of the top 3 financial companies (bank), and the benefits provided to me are $4,000 reimbursement, as well as 6 weeks paid "adoption leave". In addition, I can tack on my 4 weeks of vacation for a total of 10 weeks paid time off.

This topic was covered last year, and I think it was either a technology or insurance company that had out of this world benefits. You may want to search the archives.

I worked for a supermarket chain owned by a Dutch company. 2003 was the first year that they offered up to $2500 in reimbursemnts - max of 2 per family. If both you and your spouse work for the company, you still only get it twice.

NO paid time-off.

I also work for one of the largest banks in the country. I believe that my adoption benefit is $3000 reimbursement and maternity leave.

I work for a small media company (less than 1,000 employees).

They reimburse $5,000 in expenses for each adoption, and give the same paid parental leave (4 wks) for adoption as they do for childbirth.

I'm feeling very lucky as we get ready to take full advantage of it...

My husband works for a large printer company (not the largest) and he receives $7000 employer contribution for each adoption. (I don't think there is a limit to the number of adoptions.)

I am a teacher in Kentucky, and state employees receive $3000 contribution...however, teachers are not considered state employees and do not receive this benefit. It is interesting that we are considered state employees when it is to their benefit

Pretty Good

It sounds like my company stacks up well. I can receive $5,000 in reimbursement.

All new parents receive 2 weeks leave paid. 12 weeks FMLA. A little more time would be great, but . . .

My company has hosted adoption seminars as well. Presenting various adoption avenues and resources.

My husband works for Verizon (Bell Atlantic) and we get reimbursted $10,000 per adoption!!
He gets no paid leave, just FMLA unpaid if he wants.

His company is a $2 billion dollar company and more than 300,000 employees.

We are very fortunate to have this benefit.

Thanks everyone!

I really appreciate your responses. I submitted my plea to our Benefits Manager.

Also, just wanted to state that I am thankful we get any benefits. However, I do truly believe that the adoption benefits should be on par with the other benefits a company provides. That's my biggest dissatisfaction. The adoption benefits are just so out of whack with our other benefts that it's noticeably incongruous.

Thanks!
Holli

I work for AOL/Time Warner. Our adoption benefit was raised from 2500 to 5000 this year. No paid time off, but we can take 12 wks unpaid FMLA.
