Hello Fellow Waiters...
Can someone help with this question? We are soon leaving for our "hopeful" pick up trip...(Still not submitted to embassy though) but case is done...anyway, my d.h. can only stay for a few days with me, and he must leave to come home for work, etc. we are hoping things will be submitted and we will have pink soon, if not, I plan to stay for a few extra days and wait for pink (if its not too long)...can he sign anything while he is there with me, or should we get the power of attoruny here before we go? Hope we won't need it,,,he has seen her 3 times previously...any ideas? ps. I have no idea how to DO a power of attourny for him either? help!!!!!! Thank you for your help! sincerely, oh well Referral Aug. 2002 Out of PGN Dec. 18, 2003 got Birthmom sign off, passport, etc... Now Waiting (& fed up) to be SUBMITTED to EMBASSY!!! |

That's a difficult one for a couple of reasons...I would recommend getting the POA done here just because it has to be notarized, etc. Of course it's something your agency should be giving you, and I know that's not something you have a lot of luck with!
The other potential problem I see is that you would want her to come home with an IR3 Visa...since you both have seen her prior to the adoption. Normally, if one parent travels for the pick up trip she would take her husband's passport to the embassy as proof that he visited the baby prior to the adoption...but of course your husband is going to need his passport to go home...so I don't really know what you would use as proof. Somehow, I don't think copies would work. I wonder if you couldn't actually visit the embassy prior to your pick up appointment and get answers to those two questions...they may even have a POA you could use...but I'm not sure how 'helpful' they would be---yes I know they are probably reading this, but maybe they will respond and tell this poor woman who has waited 2 years how she can get her baby home!!!!

Here is the POA we used and had no problems and my husband had never seen Katie and didn't travel with me. I don't think he can sign anything prior to the embassy appt and the pink slip being issued. HTH

if you can wait
I know that wait is difficult. I am in the same predicament as you just about. If you can wait for your case to be given to the Embassy, then you probably can work it out where you only have to stay 3-4 days.

if we wait nothing will ever get done,
Don't you see our dates??? WE got final sign off in DEC! (early Dec) at that... I am done waiting, sorry. We are loosing our daughter to TIME... But thank you all for the suggestions...I may type up the one example and get it noterized here just to have with us, and also go beg the embassy to let my d.h. sign things before he leaves if it comes to that. We leave Feb.2, pray for us if you can..oh well.

Pictures in Guatemala with husband will also work as verification !
Oh Well;
I know of people who have used Pictures of the Baby with their (your) husband in Guatemala will also work as verification as proof that he was In-Country! Antiqua is an easy or obvious verifiable one for this!

Mically,
Don't you think I've tried to email/call, etc... I have emailed at least 7-10 emails in the last 2 weeks with only one confusing reply about 10 days ago or so... I sent one last night, and one just now...thanks for the thoughts though...oh well.

sorry I sound like a .....
Please forgive me all, I am really stressing over this visit/pickup... but that is no excuse to be rude or short with folks. This board has helped me so much, thank you all for listening to me and giving me so much encouragement and ideas. Our agency is not always there for us, we have been trying for almost 2 years now to bring our little girl home. And I'm sure the embassy will help us once we GET there! again, please forgive any shortness, or loss of passports!!! (found it).
oh well...a mess... |
