Question about an Adoption Agency
Has anyone used Bethany to adopt from Guatemala? We are wanting to adopt from Guatemala and are looking at different agencies. We are looking closely at Bethany because they have an office close by. I know that shouldn't be the reason we should go with them but I thought it would make things a little easier. Has anyone heard anything about Bethany?

My husband and I are in the early stages of adopting from Guat. and we were thinking of using Bethany - we actually attended an information meeting and had an approved preapplication. We decided to go a different route because Bethany has a requirement of attending a 3-hour training meeting and an all day seminar before they will start the home study. We will be out of town for their next meeting, so we were told we could go to the next cycle of meetings in March.
I think that they are a good organization and they came highly recommended to us by another couple we know. If time is not an issue and you feel comfortable with them - then go for it - they have a great reputation. We were just ready to start the process because we already had our mind made up about adopting from Guat. and there is so much waiting time anyway. I think the classes are a good idea, though. Anne |

Bethany
I do know a couple who did two domestic adoptions thru Bethany and they liked them and had no complaints.

Please be sure to check out the specific program you are interested in using...just because an agency is strong in their domestic program or their Russian program does not mean that their Guatemalan program is good. I'm not speaking specifically about Bethany...just good advice in general!

Yes. Bethany is great we used them twice in the State of Michigan for thew Guatemala program. I've got to be very good
friends with the liason in Guatemala, She is awesome!!! She will take very good care of you when you're in Guatemala. She is very helpful with all your paperwork, and escorts you to the Embassy, ect. Bethany is a huge company, but very personalized. We continue to support them, they are wonderful people. We are currently working with Open Door Adoption through Ga. Now that I have something to compare to. They are Fabulous! Very attentive to every little need. We recieve pictures, video's,DVD's all the time. It great!!! They're are some wonderful agencies out there, I wish you the Best! Blessings, Julieof5 now 6! |

This Bethany sounds wonderful. Whatever you do, don't use ABC Adoptions out of Lenexa, Kansas. They were horrible. On second thought, you couldn't use them anyway because they don't even offer a Guatemala program anymore. Hmmmm............... James.
