Health problems
I am curious if anyone else here has had any health issues come up during this process. Did it affect your adoption or did you have to change your paperwork?
The reason I'm asking is I am having problems and go in Tuesday for a heart catheterization. I hope they can find out what's wrong and it can be easily fixed. I'm glad now the adoption has taken longer than I'd hoped. I can't imagine going through this with 5 kids - 3 still new and adjusting. Hopefully by the time they come home, I'll be better. |

Depends on the medical problem
A heart catheterization is not the same thing as finding out you have hypercholesterolemia or something simple. Although it is not as serious as other medical problems, it is still fairly serious. Diagnosis of problem is what the heart catheterization is generally used for.
Depending on the medical condition. If they find something serious that requires invasive medical treatment, yes, change the paper work. If it is something that can be treated with out invassive medical treatment, I'd say no. But, the best bet is not to take anyones word for it that is NOT a doctor. Go to your doctor. Explain to him/her in detail your concerns and your adoption paper work and ask him/her if it is their opinion that this is important enough to go through the process of changing your paper work. |

Thanks for your reply. They have given me an initial dx of super ventricular tachycardia or WPW - neither of which sound bad and if they find the problem they will go ahead and do an ablation during the catheterization. The prognosis for that is very good.
I guess I will know more after Tuesday and see what they find. Thanks, Julie |

Most times..
Most times SVT can be medically treated with medications. Not always, but most times.
SVT is fairly common, especially in the older generation. By common I mean it is not rare/unheard of. I wish you well and hopefully your tests come out with nothing too severe. |

Julie,
You will be in my prayers...I hope all turns out well. As for the adoption...unless you find out something that would affect your ability to parent or affect what would be considered a 'normal life expectancy'...then I would not worry about changing any of your paperwork. Good luck...and let me know if there is anything the rest of us folks in Atlanta can do to help!

Ankaran, my case cannot be treated with medications (they tried). I'm 36 and otherwise very healthy.
Becky and Eveybri - thanks for your thoughts and prayers, that's what I really need right now. |

Julie,
First let me say I am sorry for your condition and you will be in my prayers. I was in the process of my adoption and I went in for an elective surgery and they could not continue with the procedure as the found I have cirrohisis of the liver. I too was scared that they would no longer let me continue with the adoption as I know have a life threatening disease! I was told all I would need to do if that was to be questioned was I would need to get a letter from my liver specilist stating that I still was in good health as my liver is functiong well and that the disease would have no out come of my ability to be a good parent. And also that I could live forever and never get any worse. I chose to tell my adoption coordinator of the problem, but no one else. I did not redo any forms, because at the time I filled them out there was no problem therefor they were not falsified. Good luck
