DH wants to know if you need to get bottled water and if they have American TV?
I know some of you have stayed at the Westin so I was wondering if you don't mind letting me know. TIA. Now to finish packing and washing the tons of outfits.

I would not drink the water anywhere in Guatemala...even if the hotel says it is 'safe. I'd stick with bottled water...just to avoid even the remote possibility of digestive problems!
Most hotels provide some bottled water each day and you can buy it fairly cheaply in most stores/pharmacies around the hotels. As for TV...some of the channels are in English...most in Spanish. Have a GREAT trip!

Im not sure on the TV but probably most would be in spanish I assume. As far as the water, do not I repeat do not drink the water regardles what the hotel says! I would strictly stick to bottled water. Also, if ordering a soda, make sure you order without Ice. I have also been told not to eat any of the fresh fruits and vegetabales. Good luck on your tripp

Make sure you avoid the ice... My entire family was sick upon returning from our recent trip to Guatemala. We had ice in one drink while we were there. The sickness was terrible. Our family agrees that it was worse than the flu!!!!!
Stay well so you can enjoy your baby!!!!

We took bottled water and stuck with that pretty religiously.
American TV can be found, too--my husband was delighted to see ESPN, until he realized it was in Spanish! I do recall watching a couple of movies and I think a rerun of "Friends" with subtitles in English. Oh--and Rugrats, too. Seems you can't escape them anywhere....(at least it wasn't SpongeBob SquarePants, which seems to be on 24/7....)

We stayed at the Westin
With the exception of coffee in the morning, I drink nothing but water all day. We did have some bottled water, but I had water with my meals in the restaurant - with ice - and used the tap water for brushing our teeth, and had no problems whatsoever. There is a sign in the bathroom that says the tap water is purified and please do not run it any longer than necessary.
Also, there were several TV stations in English. At the Westin there is HBO and Cinemax and these are in English with Spanish subtitles, and there are a couple of news channels and I think WB is in English too, but I don't remember if that is the station or not. You probably won't do much TV watching during the day anyway. The pool is magnificent! The weather was beautiful while we were there and I could have just stayed in that sun all day. Take sunscreen! I had a deep brown tan in about 20 minutes, but longer than that and you will burn. Have a great time! I wish we were going back! |
