PGN Time line

Just out of curiousity I was wondering of the people who are currently in PGN when did you enter and those who have recently exited how long were you there.

We entered on 3/18 and as far as we know we have not be kicked out but yet we are still in there.

Thanks

3 months in PGN

I hope this helps. My case entered PGN around Feb. 5 and then on March 12 I was asked to get an additional document which I sent down the same day. We just got out on Friday, May 9th. So that is about 3 months. With one minor clitch. Who knows what they do there, for 2 weeks my lawyer was telling me that the papers are just waiting to be signed. It took 2 weeks for someone to get around to signing off.

Hope yours goes faster. My daughter is going to 1 year old on May 27 and I got the referrel June 3, 2002. My papers were in Guatemala on June 11, 2002. So all in all it took a whole year.

I adopted my son from Guatemala in 2001 and it took 6 months from soup to nuts. He was home by 6 months old.

Best of luck to all who are in this process.

Jackie

We went in PGN on April 1st, and were kicked out May 7th. We are awaiting a document to be authenticated so we can reenter.

I'm not sure of the exact date we entered PGN, but it was sometime after March 18th. We were kicked out on April 9th. We had three things to redo, which we took care of quickly. But then they sat in the Consulate in DC for over two weeks, waiting to be authenticated. Our agency sent them out to Guatemala on May 5th, so now we are waiting.
Hoping we all get good news really soon!!

We entered PGN the last week of February. We were kicked out once that we know of but were back in within the week we were kicked out.

We are still waiting.

According to the info I received from my agency, PGN works on a 10 day cycle. Your attorney turns in all your documents and then returns 10 days later to find out if everything was approved or if there are things that have to be redone. If anything has to be redone, then the attorney gets that done and re-submits the "package" again for another 10 day cycle. This is repeated until you are approved.

I mentioned to my agency director about some people I've heard about online who have been in PGN for months and months, and she said that that is a direct reflection on their agency and/or attorney. She has only had a couple cases go as far as three cycles in PGN, with most getting out in 1. Since that is the case, we are keeping our fingers crossed that we'll have a quick trip through PGN when we enter next week.

Good luck to you all who are waiting.

Renee

PGN "Translation"

Hi, Hannah!

PGN is the acronym for "Procuraduria General de la Nacion", which is similar to our Attorney General's office. They have oversight on all adoptions in Guatemala.

Once you have "exited" PGN, your adoption is more or less final--so getting out (or "escaping" as other posters have put it) is a huge, huge deal and cause for much celebration here on the forums!

Renee,

Which adoption agency are you working with? Have you been happy with them? If most families get through PGN on the 1st try, I'm impressed!!! I'm still checking out agencies to see who appears to be the best.... We may do this again.

Denise,
You asked about what documents needed redone... We had to get a new marriage certificate because there was a black line on the one they had. The other thing that we needed to redo on our end was an affadavit letter. The letter was fine, but when our County Court House certified it, they didn't sign the certificate that they attached to it. We didn't notice it, and I could kick myself for missing it. Our agency never noticed it when they reviewed our documents. So we had to redo the whole thing.
Good luck!
Tammy

Thanks to all who have responded to my question. The reason I asked is that we were meeting with our agency today and wanted to present them with the responses.
We were told that we were kicked out yesterday for something very minor and we were back in today. She told us that it would probally be at least another 2 weeks before we hear anything but hopeing when we do it will be the call we have been longing for.

Good luck to all
