Even though we have just recently accepted our referal from Guatemala, we are starting to plan ahead for our second adoption.

Hubby wants to adopt a girl from China and since the referral time is 12-14 months, we want to plan the timeline based on when we expect to bring our first child home etc., etc.,

That puts us in the position of wanting to have our China Dossier completed by August/September.

We just had our Guatemala Homestudy in February. One agency I spoke with said that in this type of situation, the homestudy fee is only a couple of hundred dollars and is more of an administrative fee since a recent homestudy already exhists and only needs to be updated and made country specific.

Our actual homestudy agency is telling us we would need an entirely new homestudy and would have to pay the entire fee all over again ($2,100)

So, has anyone else started the adoption process while their previous homestudy was still valid and how was it handled?

I talked about this with my SW as well (despite not even being close to done with #1...LOL). For adoption #2, she said they would write an "updated" homestudy. The cost would be about $400 for the updated version.

You should be able to do an update. I don't see any reason to do the entire thing over, especially in such a short time-frame.

I'd check into it again.
