Can we even register???
OK I have TONS of questions so please bear with me.
My DH was called 2 weeks into our now almost 10 year marriage and told that he had a daughter, that she was being placed for adoption with a couple in Texas and that he better not blow it. OK so he freaks out of course. He signs what the lawyer asks him to sign. (A peice of paper saying that he denied paternity but that in the event he was the father he was relenquisihing his rights.) So we think that this little girl's birth records read unknown father. There are so many things that we do not know. We do not know the lawyer that handled the adoption, we don't know the date the little girl was born ETC. One thing that the lawyer that brought the papers asked DH was what medical information could he pass along to the adoptive parents. Well DH is adopted so he had no information. Well he reunited with his birth mother this weekend and got the medical information for at least one side. (We are working on the other side.) There are things in there that are so common we feel that this little girls adoptive parents NEED to know. So I call the state registry, and I was given a name and phone #. I call it and it is for the Gladney center. I leave a message and I go to the website mentioned on the voice mail. Turns out they have a registry. DH would like to register, and DS, (he knows about her) said that when he turns 18, he wants to register. The thing is can we if the birht record says father unknown???? The birth mother insists that DH is the father. We are willing to pay for DNA tests if the girl wants them to know for sure. We don't need them for our peice of mind. I am waiting to hear back from Gladney on passing on the information that we do have. However does anyone have experince with the father not being known and Gladney's avaliblity to put the father and the father's other children on the registry. Thankfully this is not really an issue for a little over 8 years but man that does not seem that far off now. (Compartivly) Jennifer |
