Chronic health problems and adoption
Hi,
I'm new here and wanting to gather some information. DH is not very into the idea of adoption right now, but I want to get some info anyway. I have a chronic kidney disease which will likely require a transplant 10-20 years down the road. Is this something that would disqualify me from adopting? Thanks for your help! rdckda |

Most agencies require a statement from your doctor saying you will have a normal life span and have a normal capacity for caring for a child, before they will accept you as a client.
If I were you, I'd have a talk with your doctor and discuss the idea of adoption with him. Find out his opinion on those questions, and learn what he would tell an agency that wanted to know the answers. Then, choose your agency carefully. Some take doctor's word for it, others require medical information and then have their own doctors look it over. You'll want to know what your agency does, and their attitude toward conditions like yours. Good luck! |
