I am struggling to conjuer up the strength to get started...I have little to no support, I have a very different situation and though I trust in my God that this is something I will do and even though my gut tells me now is the time I every day face the task of writing my DBML and not knowing what to write and thinking of my lilited options interms of agencies or lawyers who will work with me and wondering, HOW IF ALL THESE CLASSIC HEALTHY STABLE COUPLES are having to wait so long to be chosen, how long will I have to wait? And more importantly how will I cope?
Sorry to vent like that but I say all that to say, I am here to listen or takl if you need. And I was just wondering how you came to adoption adn how you are dealing with the wait? Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi
I am also waiting at first me and my husband applied thru the state, then we decided to go for a agency that deals with special needs. Unfortunately, the waiting has been a long one. Hopefully, our caseworker is getting the paperwork finalized. I know it's frustrating. hang in there. ![]() |

I just wonder where everyone get the finances from. My husband and I are struggling to come up with the money for the home study. We both work full time jobs and we have a business that we operate from our home. Goodness. If anyone is interested we have a website and the address is www.ourhealthstore.com
Please check it out. And if you have any fundraising ideas we are open for suggestions. ![]()

I'm in good company
While it is difficult for me to hear that so many people are experiencing arduous waiting periods, it does give me some comfort that I am not alone. As a single adoptive man, let me tell you that my decision is not common, but I am convinced that I am doing the right thing for myself and for the child that is placed with me. I have been licensed since July and have revised my homestudy text once. I have been offered 3 children, but they were not good matches for me. What I have learned from the domestic adoption process (boy 4-7), is that the social workers really try to match the child with the family that can best provide for his/her needs. During my homestudy revision, I mentioned things like having prescreened attachment therapists, tutors and educational assessment specialists. I spoke with several matching coordinators who were more than happy to critique my homestudy and provide suggestions for improvements and I incorporated the type of language that appeals to placement workers. The revision process was very useful to me in that it forced me to sit down and write about my decision to adopt, the skills and services that I could provide and the team that I have created in advance to support not only the needs of the child, but my needs as a signle parent.

I have bookmarked the following website. I have found it interesting reading. I know that it does not have all the answers, but it is a start as it does list a lot of resources.

Hello! DH and I are currently in the waiting game. We are doing a private adoption through an attorney. We have been financially supporting (by way of our second mortgage) our birth mother since May - she is due in November. However, we had a setback. No need to post all the details here, but I would love to share our info through e-mail with you. It has been such an emotional rollercoaster - we had our home study completed last November and were matched in May. But we don't know where we stand right now. The birth mother is changing her mind.
Prayers for us all! |

DH and I are also new to this. We have gaurdianship of a 16 year old that will never leaglly be ours but in my heart she is mine. We are using an agency and they are wonderful. We are waiting to get our homestudy done this month, and I am terrified that we won't get placed before Christmas. If we don't get all the paper work done, then I don't know how long it will take.
I am just ready to have some adorable little kids filling my home! We are adopting "special needs" children, and when I say children I mean 2 or more! We are open to just about everything so our aggency says we should be easy placements. well thanks for "listening" I hope to make lots of new friends, since most of you are in my shoes. feel free to check out my little web page: http://www.geocities.com/ggladydj77/grahamadoption.html
