Wink Looking for E-pal transracial adoption

My husband and I just finished our homestudy on January 1. We are hoping to adopt either a biracial boy or girl (newborn). We're 28 and 29 and have struggled with infertility (mine) for the past 3 years. I am so excited about adopting and would love to hear from anyone else adopting for the first time especially biracial or African American.

Hi, I am 28 also. My husband and I are considering transracial adoption also. Was it a difficult process? I was adopted myself, so I hope that would help me to understand some of the issues dealing with adoption. Are you adopting an older child or an infant? Much luck to you both. God blesses us in so many different ways. If you think about it, it is amazing the timing God has when putting a family together. You guys, the mother and father and that specific child he has for you. Coming from an adoptive child......God Bless you both!

I worked into a great adoption agency (WACAP) in October and our homestudy was completed in December. It was a very easy process. It might have helped that our social worker was around the same age as us. We are adopting a newborn. The wait is supposed to be 2 to 9 months since we are open to either a boy or girl. If you have any questions about the initial process let me know. It was very frustrating at first with all the paperwork. Take care and good luck!

Hi there Jessy!

Welcome to the Adoption Forums!

We are a transracial family by adoption and feel so blessed! It is so great to hear how open you and your husband are to transracial adoption. Your wait definitely will be shorter for your child to arrive into your home.

My husband and I decided in fost/adopt since we had three bio children and wanted to give a home to a child that didn't have one. Our daughter came to us when she was only 9 months old. (She is now 3 1/2 years).

I hope you find an e-pal that meets your needs during your adoption journey!

Warm wishes,
sherryk

Talking Transracial adoption

My husband and I are in the last stages of an adoption. We are adopting a baby girl that is half hispanic and half white. She looks mostly hispanic though. She is just beautiful. I would be more than happy to have an e-pal adopting a transracial child. It's been an interesting experience and I'd love to discuss how to raise our child!! sincerely, Janel celestialdolls@yahoo.com

To Jessy:

My wife and I adopted a newborn bi-racial boy back in Sept. 2001. He's 1/2 aa and 1/2 white. He's the coolest and best kid ever (but I'm only a lot biased). He's the love of our life and we've learned a lot about him as he's growing up- We're white, btw. I would love to have an e-pal who's going through the process as I can share what we've learned and we can learn together. I realize that someone else beat me to post, but if you'd still be interested, I'd love to have me 1st e-pal..

Good Luck and I hope to hear from you soon.

i would love to hear about others experiences. my family is transracial through adoption. i am white and my soon-to-be son is biracial (aa/wh). i also am fostering his 1/2 sister who is biracial (aa/wh). to this point there have not been many issues arise dealing with this (aside from my mother - this has since been resolved). however, my children are little so i am sure things will start to come up as they get older. i would love to hear other's experiences. good luck in your adoption process
