Hi everyone,
My husband and I are finally ready to adopt. We have been pretty much ready for quite a while, but wanted to give ourselves some time to deal with our fertility issues. We have been ttc for over 2 years now. I m/c more than 1.5 years ago, and we've both had lots of testing. DH is fine, and since the only thing they could find wrong with me was a fibroid, they labelled me with "unexplained infertility". I believe that my hormones got completely out of wack after my m/c, and that that also caused the fibroid to grow (didn't have that before). Also, I am 35.5. Anyhow, for the last 4 months or so, I have been in the care of a homeopath/naturopath and have also done some hypnotherapy with counseling recently. I feel a whole lot better these days, but just don't want to spend the next several years ttc and letting life pass by me anymore. We just really want a child! DH has been emotionally ready to adopt longer than me. I think I needed these last few months to deal with everything emotionally. But now that we're both ready to adopt, we're so excited about it! We have done some research and reading, and know some basic things. But any insights and help is more than welcome!! We are looking into adopting a domestic newborn baby, and I'm wondering if anybody here has had any experiences (good or bad) with any agencies and/or adoption attorneys in the Northern CA area. We are about 1 hour North-East from Sacramento, but the Bay Area is good too. Thanks so much in advance, Edith |

Hi Edith!
First off...Glad you're here. This is a wonderful site and a wealth of information. I commend you and DH for taking a step back and accepting adoption before proceeding. It sounds like you've handled it in such a healthy way. We're in TX so I'm not familiar with CA agencies. I would recommend using an agencies that you can talk to other people that have used them at all stages of process. Also, it may sound hokey, but support groups in your area offer a great network of info. I'm sure others in CA will respond to your post, but please continue to keep us posted! Kristi ![]() |

Welcome to the board. Nowadays there are SO MANY agencies that work with prospective adoptive parents located all over the country that it's not particularly necessary to limit yourself to an agency in your state. Not that there's anything wrong with using one in your state... it's a matter of preference. DH and I live on the east coast and are using an agency in Texas (The Gladney Center for Adoption).
At one point I had looked into Lifetime Adoptions in Grass Valley California and thought they sounded pretty good. I was disappointed when they said they had had problems in placing children in our state so they no longer did it. You might want to at least check them out on the web. Hope that helps, somewhat. |
