Question 20 Things Adopted Kids wish their Adoptive Parents Knew

20 Things Adopted Kids Wished their Adoptive Parents Knew by Sherrie Eldridge.

Anyone read this? Any thoughts on it? I was browsing through amazon looking for a book to pass some time with and keep my adoption hopes up and I came across this one.

The reviews are good and it sounds like something that would be worthwhile to read but I'd love to get some expert opinions on it if anyone here has read it.

So basically, should I spend the $12 on the book, or put it in the savings account?

Ben

I have read it

I have read it. It is a good book but instead of buying it why don't you see if your local library system has it and check it out first and see if you want to spend the money on it?

Library...?

What a great idea!

In this day and age of ebooks, the web, and whatnot, I actually forgot about my local library.

Going to check their online catalogue now. Thanks for the brain jog. More coffee might help too.

Great book

Our local adoption support group has been promoting this book for several months, and sponsored a workshop given by the author last week. Unfortunately, I couldn't go, but heard it was great. Our library does NOT have this book ( we have a very poor library here), but I borrowed it and just started reading it. Our local CPS has purchased several copies and keeps them in their lending library. Fost-adopt parents can earn training hours by reading it here! It is great. Adoptees I know have also read it, and agree strongly with almost everything in this book (no one agrees with everything). Haven't gotten far enough to make an honest description of it yet, but do believe in the birth trauma issues.

LOL

It's ok.. no biggie. I don't even have cable tv and I love books so I am constantly at the library. I am in a fairly large city and we have an interlibrary loan system so if my branch doesn't have it then they order from the other branch for me. There is so much info out there. I figure why not borrow as many as you can and only buy the ones you really want...

I would hand you a cup of coffee but I don't drink that either lol

FYI. Any public library should do interlibrary loan for you (if the book is not a very recent publication). Just be warned that it may take a while to get a book. So you can put that $12 in the savings account!
