What to avoid in an Agency

Please learn from my mistakes.

1. Avoid agencies that require a large deposit. $5000 or more. These agencies have a history of promising quick placements that they can not deliver. They need to lock you in with large deposits so you can not leave after a year or so when they still have not placed you. These contracts are nonrefundable and you will lose your money. There are agencies out there that only require small start up fees of $500 to $100.
2. Avoid agencies that promote themselves to waiting families. For example any agency that attends a lot of conf or has a fancy website. They are spending too much money on finding more families and not searching for birthmothers. They look very good from the onset, but beware. For them it is all about getting your $$$$.
3. Avoid agencies that have over 30 waiting families or don't cap their families. The agency may tell you they have only 30 waiting families and placed 20 babies last year. That sounds good, but ask if the 30 waiting families includes the 20 placed. Otherwise that is 50 families that agency worked with and placed 20. You have a 1in 50 shot not 1 in 30.
THE GOOD NEWS
You will find the baby that is meant for you. We adopted a beautiful baby boy. I just want families to be careful and not get taken along the way like we did. We put alot of money in an agency in texas. Waited waited waited. Nothing. Found agencies with small start up fees and were placed a month later. minus $11,000 to the agency in Texas. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. I will give you the name of the agency to avoid. Best of luck
