independent adoption question

Hello All!! I received a phone call for a baby girl on Saturday from my friend. This is not a referral from an agency but independent. I was wondering if any one has done an adoption just using lawyers? If so can you please tell me about your experiences. I really don't know the steps to take and neither does the birthmother. TIA

Hi All - don't mean to hijack your thread but I was about to post the exact question.

I just thought a little while ago that maybe I should have posted this in the after adoption section. I guess if people just started they may not know.

We ended up with an agency situation but I started out working on an independent adoption and did quite a bit of research. Your first step is to find a good adoption attorney. You can look on the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys website for one in your area. They will be able to tell you what your next steps should be. You will also need to pay for the expectant mother/parents to have their own attorney.

HTH. Good luck.
