Birthparents looking for agency in GA
Hello,
My girlfriend is in her third trimester and has just now finally come to the conclusion that she wants to adopt the baby(I apologize if my terminology is incorrect, very new to this). I've been told by a couple friends now that there are agencies around that will actually help cover the medical bills, counseling, and even help pay lost wages (she just now took her leave of absence at work, can't work on her feet anymore). Has anyone successfully used one of these agencies in GA, and if so, how was your experience? Could I get a few numbers? I know I'm new here, so thank you for allowing me to post, and thank you SO much for any advice. Robert Edit: Another thing, I've just now read about out-of-state adoption being a possibility too, since GA law doesn't allow adoptee's to financially help the birthmother at all. Does that make sense to consider that as a possibility? Are we being selfish in trying to find a place able to help compensate some lost wages with her having to be out of work now? Thanks again! Hi there -
I would encourage your friend to research some agencies in your state for starters. You might want to look on this site for any reviews of agencies (other members can send you a private message). You can also go here for recommendations: Georgia Adoption Directory Of course, she is not limited to just her own state. There are so many agencies, law offices and facilitators that work with women across this country that she'll receive support no matter where she goes. Just encourage her to research her options and choose what's best for her. Good luck! You're a wonderful friend for helping out.

I know several birthmothers who have chosen families from the "Waiting Families" section on the home page of this site. They contacted the families directly, interviewed, chose the one they wanted, and worked out the details using an adoption lawyer (paid for by the adopting parents). I do know that in both cases housing, transportation, and maintainance were provided for the birth mother both before and after the birth of the baby - to give the mother time to recover physically and make plans.
