Unique Situation- Many Questions (Children Ment)

Hi,

I am very new to the idea of adoption and find myself in a unique situation. I am hoping you all will be able to help answer some of my questions. Children will be mentioned and I hope I will not offend anyone.

I have 3 children who were conceived via donor eggs. We have an open relationship with our egg donor and have developed a close friendship. I recently learned that she is pregnant and is planning to give the baby up for adoption. This of course would be a half biological sibling to my children. She is interested in having us adopt and we are interested in adopting.

My main questions have to do with what the absolute legal requirements are when it comes to adoption and the costs involved. I have done some limited research, but I am hoping I'll get some good info here.

Are home studies, social workers and background checks required in all situations, or can the adoptive parents and birth mother stipulate to any of those things? What about attorney involvement? What are the average fees for all of the things required pre-adoption?

Any other words of wisdom are very much welcome!

Thanks in advance for your help

You have a very unique situation. I am not really sure that anyone here has ever encountered anything at all like what you have described.

My best advice to you is to speak with an adoption attorney. Yes, there will be costs associated with having an attorney oversee the adoption, but it is important that everything be done correctly for everyone's sake.

Good luck.
