Particulars about Kentucky?
Hello all, I'm new to this forum and have read a couple things referring to KY having some unusual issues to consider. For example, it has laws that are different in some way, and it was also once described to me as a "volatile" adoption state. I tried to read the law on the state's website, but it's all just legal-ese to me and I can't tell what I may need to be cautious about. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks! |

I don't know many of the particular laws, except for the fact that you may not use a facilitator in KY. The adoption will not be legal if you do not use licensed agency or attorney.
Most will tell you that it is easier to adopt in-state (if doing a domestic adoption) in you reside in KY, but we have adopted from both in- and out-of-state and had no problems either way. Another issue I have heard from other KY adoptive families is about TPR. If bfather does not sign, TPR can take up to 60 days. This means he can come forward during this time and claim the child. This is all I can think of right now. Good luck!
