Question Odd question...

I was going over the guidelines for adoption through CPS here in Texas and they said you had to wait one year after a "traumatic" event before you could adopt...they said that divorce was one such event..

I know that divorce can be stressful but what if it wasn't? What if you and your spouse had been separated for years with no contact? I know a few people that haven't officially divorced their spouses but they live seperate lives. I'm not sure why they haven't filed the paperwork(probably finances)..

So I am wondering do the agencies really stick to those type of "timelines" or do they look at it on a case by case basis...it just seems weird to me that they would make you wait an extra year for that.

Has anyone else been told this or know someone that was able to foster/adopt soon after an "official" divorce?
