Is private adoption our answer? We want to gender select.

Hello,

We are looking into adoption for our next child but only want a girl. We already have one of each so it appears we would not be able to work with any domestic agencies from what I read in the blogs. So, would private adoption be our best route? I assume that requires us to locate a birth mother and have our own adoption attorney draw up everything? Also, how much would we expect to spend? We know it will be steep. I would LOVE to hear success stories about private adoption where the family gender selected (or just private adoption)!!! We would also consider Russian adoption. Trying to read up on this. Just slightly discouraging with the 3 visits, child older than 12 months, etc. Unfortunately, my husband will not consider an Asian child (where I know girls are more prevelant).

I am not sure why you think it is not possible to specify the sex of the child with an agency. We did so. Please don't think that blogs are the only source of information. Call agencies you're interested in working with and ask if they're willing to allow you to specify the sex of the child. Some agencies will, some will not.

FYI - The wait time for China is around 2 years now, so that's probably out for you anyway.

Yes, you can gender select, agencies have different rules. Some allow it, some don't, just ask. Another FYI- your wait may be much longer by specifying a girl. By specifying gender, you take yourself out of consideration for expectant mothers that don't know the gender as well.
You also may want to try referral services on top of just going with an agency.

We are specifying a girl also, and I found several agencies to work with, and I just chose from those. But MOST do not allow it. You'll just have to call around.

If you want a couple of names, you can pm me.

It really depends on the attorney. Some will match you while you wait with a pool of other adoptive parents and others won't.

It really depends on the situation. If the birth mom has high medical costs that your insurance won't cover then its going to be expensive. but most private adoptions cost between 10K-20K

I believe you should PM kelceesmom. She did a private adoption so she tell you more about the process.

Keep in mind that being open to race may keep your wait time shorter but if your not flexible on that consider being open to birthmom visits and health issues (most of them aren't as scary as they sound)
