What happens when you hit a bump?
Hello,
My husband and I are still in the very early stages of our process. We are hoping to adopt from Korea, and our agency has just begun to invite families to submit formal applications for this program. We were fortunate to be selected, but we find ourselves in an unexpected situation.
My husband recently lost his job. He is technically still on his employer’s payroll until September, but after that, we’re not sure where he’ll be (he does have some viable prospects on the horizon, so I am not freaking out just yet). We made it this far (we had to submit a preliminary application and then sort out some other issues with the agency which took a while, and then we had to wait to find out if there was even room for us in the program) and I’m just wondering if this is going to put a definitive end to our process. The information we have on our formal application currently is accurate (we have my husband’s end date on the application), but is the fact that it looks like he won’t be employed in a month going to make us ineligible to adopt? I'd hate to be cut loose now, especially if after they decide to give our place to another family, we get a definite job offer. (They said it should take about 3 days to review the application; we probably won't know the result of my husband's job search for a couple more weeks).
If anyone has gone through or knows someone who has gone through a similar situation, any insight/advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I imagine at some time or another a family has begun the adoption process and something like loss of a job, or coming down with an illness, or something else that tends to be a big factor in the review process has cropped up so there must be some sort of protocol in place. Obviously, I’d like to learn a little more before raising red flags (which might be totally unnecessary) with our agency.
Thanks
