Hello,
This is for anyone...I am a single female..41 years old. I am interested and looking at adoption. I live in Tampa,Fl. I have extra big heart to give and a great job as a nurse...so here goes my list of questions: 1. How long is the average wait for a single person to adopt? (looking for an infant to 4 years). 2. How do I get started? What is the home study thing? 3. Will I get turned down because I have eplipesy? It is under control-seizure free for 6 years. 4. Is it better to go with attroney? 5. Is internation adoption beter??? Thanks, Have a great day. Donna |

You should consider all your options -- international, domestic infant, foster care. The latter is less expensive (possibly even free if you go through a public agency) and your experience as a nurse could come in handy if you are willing to consider taking a medically-fragile child. To get a child in the age range you want, however, you'd probably have to become a foster parent first, in which case there would be the possiblity that a child placed with you would not become available for adoption. It's not for everyone, but it is an option.
I don't know a lot about the other two types of adoption, as adoption from foster care is the path I have chosen, but there are many single women who have adopted using domestic or international adoption, some of whom were over 40 at the time of the adoption.

Quote:
Dear Donna: I would go through fostercare to adopt and if your willing to take on a specil needs you could look into some other government agencys that I can PM you if you want. I have worked with DCF so I information at my finger tips when it comes to fostercare etc. The best is that they don't care about age, or single etc. Many more children in need of homes than homes for children and being a nurse you might be able to handle something extra. Wishing you the best, Summer
