We want to send these in now, even before our home study starts, can anyone tell me where I can pick them up. We went through an international home study a few years back and the agency provided them. This time we are going private, my social worker said we will have to get them from a court house, then go get finger printed then return them to the court house. Are there any other places that have these cards, the courthouse is 45 minutes away.
Thanks! |

Ours were furnished by the Adoption Agency, but I'm sure the police station would have them available as well and they can do your fingerprinting while you're there. Usually, though, police stations are close to the courthouse. Our city has multiple stations though and one is pretty close to our house.
Good luck finding one closeby. |

If your social worker will be the recipient of the results of the background check he/she should provide the fingerprint cards. When DH went to a different city to have his prints repeated (for some reason, the initial digital prints couldn't be read), the police dept told us that if we used their cards, the background information would not be sent to our agency, but to the police.
Also, with our agency, the homestudy had to be approved within 30 (?45) days of receiving the background check. You might want to find out if you'll have to wait to mail the prints until you are closer to approval.

Our social worker said it takes about 3 months to get them back after they are mailed, that is why I wanted to get them in now. Maybe I should wait and see....

You can go to your local police precinct. We went to the main precinct in our city and they had the cards, fingerprinted us and gave them to us to give to our agency - for a small fee, of course. You might call the non-emergency policy number and ask where you can go. Good luck!

We mailed ours and it did not take that long. It was just a few weeks. I'm sure each state is different though. No harm in starting the process if you are getting close to that point. |
