Travel Question

For adopting from foster care, are there limits on interstate travel during the time between placement and finalization? All of my family live in another state, and I would want the child to meet them within a couple months of placement (while I am still on my FMLA leave).

I think that's going to be a question best answered by your social worker because it may be different from city to city, county to county, state to state.

With an agency adoption, I do know that I can take my dd to another state, but I have to let the agency know ahead of time. They also advised us against taking her out of the country though as there is a lot of paperwork involved.

Thanks for the tip. I will definitely bring the issue up during my home study (which I will be starting soon).

When I worked in foster care, if the birthparents still had parental rights, you had to get the birthparents' permission before taking the kids out of state. You also had to get a letter from the child's social worker stating the dates you were taking the child out of state and where you were going. I'm guessing it's probably the same thing in foster-adopt, as they're technically still foster kids.

We have taken our FD to Florida, Pa, and we are going to Dc and Aruba this fall. we just filled out papaer work and the bio mom was asked if it was ok. my Fd;s caseowrker said if the Bioparents say No she just goes and gets permission from the judge and he over rides it.. now we are int he process of adoption so the cw just informs the bio parents. doesnot really ask permission.
