Heart Any advice would be helpful. Really, anything.

We're just now getting the process started. We chose to adopt through the state (DHS in Oregon), but couldn't use our local caseworker because of a conflict (I work for what they call a "partner agency"). So they contracted with a private agency for us. So far, we've gotten all the paperwork ready for the homestudy and have sent out all the reference outlines to our references. We attend the weekend training weekend after next.

I've read a couple of books and understand that I need to be aware of my expectations and be prepared for anything and everything. Any other advice that anyone can think of for someone just starting out would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I didn't go that route but just wanted to say welcome and good luck in your journey.

Welcome!
I have no specific words of wisdom. We adopted twice through foster-adopt--once in Illinois 14 yrs ago and once in NM 3 years ago. The substitiute care system (social services) is the biggest hurdle! Read all you can and ask lots of questions. Parenting is the hardest thing I have ever done, but it is definitely worth it! Expect lots of frustration with the "system". Feel free to ask for guidance here-there is a wealth of information to be had.

Hi, I'm an adoptee and I'm reading Primal Wound and I'm finding out a lot about myself. It might be helpful to pick it up and get a persective from an adoptee or actually an amom and her daughter.

I wish you the best of luck, I was adopted through a doctor/lawyer in Oregon! I've heard its one of the best states to adopt from.

Hugs,
Sommer
