help... we're nervous..

We are adopting thru the state and are about to set up a first meeting with an 8yr old male. I'm sure he is scared and uncomfortable even though his FM says he really wants a family of his own. Though our search thus far, I never expected to feel nervous or unsure. We have not been given any clear guidelines as to how to proceed, so... Any advice about the intial meetings or transition period? How long is the transition period? I assume it is depends on the individuals involved, but does anyone have any tidbits to share or things to do or not do?

Thanks in advance...
