Agency listed in the BBB is okay?

An agency that is registered(or whatever!) with the better business bureau is an okay agency, right? I can trust this agency?? The agency is lifetime adoptions just to let ya know!!

Being listed with the BBB is not necessarily an endorsement. I would post in the general area and ask people with DIRECT experience with the agency to PM you with their opinions. Just my .02!

Also, you need to make sure that you can legally work with a facilitator in your state - we can't in IL.

Best of luck!

We came across a specific situation that we were interested in through a facilitator we found online. We researched the agency with BBB and they had a clean record, no negative reports. So we pursued the situation and were matched to what we thought was a healthy 30y/o PBM. 2 days after we paid our match fee, we discovered PBM was 43y/o and has an extensive history of drugs, alcohol, and prostitution and the facilitator had no prenatal records or proof of PG. That was over 2 months ago and to date, we're still waiting for our refund.

My advice is don't rely on BBB...it just means nobody filed a complaint through BBB, but it doesn't mean PAPs/APs did not have horrible experiences.

Good luck!

In my experience, it doesn't even mean that. I've filed some complaints with the BBB and unless it's a DIRECT breach of something you can PROVE they promised you, then they won't list it as a complaint. For instance, we hired someone to work on our bathroom. They never showed up on time (making us stay home from work about twice as many days as they had estimated), didn't bother to show up at all sometimes, but did eventually complete the job. The BBB took our complaint, but it wasn't ever listed on the BBB site because they eventually finished the job and didn't charge us more (though, IMO, they should have given us a discount!).

I agree with the PPs. The BBB is a great place to start (in order to rule out someone you don't want to use), but you definitely need to investigate much further than that.

My advice is do not rely on the BBB. Not everyone goes on record to file a complaint. Hope this helps.

Can I ask which agency you worked with to adopt your child. Did you have a good experience? I realize you are in IL. we are in California. Have you had any experience with Adoption law network or lifetime adoptions? Can you please PM me. Thanks

Agencies have been known to have their report wiped clean. No, I wouldn't solely trust the BBB.
