Currently in the home study process - set for our second interview this coming Saturday. We are potentially matched with an expectant mom, due July 31, with a little girl. We are praying that everything goes according to plan and that we will finally be parents.

Unhappy Matched before homestudy?

I was just curious how the people that have been matched before completing homestudy managed to do that? My agency wouldn't match anyone until the homestudy is complete

I will admit, that this is not the typical scenario. It was more along the lines of a semi-identified domestic situation that came through family first, and the pregnancy crisis center second.

The first situation was an emergency type thing - it ultimately fell through, but we started the home study process immediately. So...we were already in the home study process when this situation appeared.

I hope that this makes sense. I don't want anyone to feel bad that someone else was matched early or out of sequence or what have you. Everything in adoption is tenuous. Things can still fall through. Adoptions can still be disrupted. So, I don't want to feel like we did or are doing anything wrong just because things aren't following the "script" 100% to the letter. Like everyone else, we are just trying to do the best that we can.

That's great!!

We have a potential match due in July, and are just now starting to get our homestudy stuff together. Whew. It's a serious pile of paperwork.

I do think being open to all races helps speed things along. That's pretty much why we had a "bite" so quickly.

I agree! We were totally open to adopting transracially. Our current match is an CC/AA expectant mom and AA dad.

Smile Happy for you....

I am happy for you..... I didn't think you were missing steps or passing judgement. I was just wanted how i could do it. And yes the adoption journey is different for all of us and the prayer is we all get matched. I know of a couple that was matched within days of completing their homestudy........... so its all good and just enjoy.

We're just getting started!

My husband and I are going to be filling out the initial application. I am so excited to FINALLY be able to say this. We have been planning this for about 3 years now. We have picked an agency. They are based out of Arizona and are licensed in a couple of states. I am excited but nervous. After 3 years of reading and reseaching I have read many horror stories. But, i can't focus on them. For every horror story there's a happily ever after. I wish all of you luck on your journeys. I look forward to sharing it with all of you.

We are currently in the homestudy process. All documents were submitted last week, hoping the home visit(s) will be soon. I haven't even started working on our profile books. Actually, I haven't selected a placing agency yet. I just can't decide!

Hi Guys... after at least two years of selling our house/moving and dragging our feet we are FINALLY sending our application in this week. I am nervous about the homestudy as well. I think that we will be fine though. I look forward to chatting with all of you as we jump on this roller coaster...

So tell me... is the homestudy really scary, or am I being paranoid DOH!

Gina

Not Scary..

I have to say, I actually enjoyed ours! We really like our SW and have found it to be really informative. We are currently matched (fingers crossed), and our SW has been amazing at giving us information and perspective (helping me stay sane!).

Enjoy every minute of the process! It's your paper pregnancy!

WOW... Courtney n' Carl.. you seem to be flying right through. That is AWESOME!!!!

Thanks for your thoughts. I think my fears are just of the unknown right now. I am sure once we get going my husband will talk our way right through... I just hope he lets me get a word in here or there. He is SOOOO excited and tends to run off at the mouth

I just hope we move along at your pace... again, SOOO awesome.

Good-luck!!

Thanks GinaMarie!

I think we are still in shock right now - still too soon to tell anyone (other then here!), and just trying to remember to breathe! I remind myself everyday (or hour), that anything could happen, and to just try and enjoy the ride, regardless. If nothing else, I am getting to know an amazing woman.

Feel free to PM if you have any questions during your process! We did a book and put up a website (which we launched app. 7 hours before getting the call - so, not yet used!). Best of luck!
