Adopting from a different state??
We are doing domestic adoption.... just starting to research everything. Can we adopt from a different state? And get an agency in a different state?? We live in Louisiana but would like to go through Florida....which is where we are both from and our parents live. Is this do-able? Thanks!!

I don't see why it wouldn't be doable. The Florida agency probably wouldn't be able to do your homestudy though. You'd have to find a local agency for that.
good luck in your journey |

While yes, you can use an agency in any state - it's possible that the childs birth parents may or may not live in that state.
Like you, expectant parents can use an agency from any state...I know a number of birth parents who used an agency in one state and were from another state while the adopting parents were from a 3rd state. Just keep that in mind.

Yep
my agency is in a different state than I live, but the homestudy will be done by a local agency and God willing so will be the birth mother.........so yeah you can adopt from a different state. They(adopting agency) have you complete forms that ensure your local homestudy makes sure "you are who you say who are"...

We used an agency in a neighboring state. Remember that you'll need an attorney in your own state and in the state where the mom gives birth, and you are required to follow the laws of the state where the baby is born.
Good luck!

We lived in one state (IL), while the birthmother delivered the baby in another state--with a supervising agency in that same state. (both FL)
The FL agency had its own attorney, and we were able to finalize in FL...without having to go back there. It was done over the phone. Really different than what we've ever done before; but this is the way it's done in FL and some other states as well, I"m told. Good luck to you... Sincerely, Linny |
