Birth certificates for homestudy

For our homestudy, we need to provide our birth certificates, which is standard I assume. I emailed the agency because my husband does not have his original, it is a certified copy he ordered from the state. I also never received an original birth certificate for my twins. I guess the state just doesn't automatically issue them anymore. Well the agency said they need to see originals. Aren't the certified copies (ordered from UScerts.com) supposed to be as good as originals? DH used it to get his MD driver's license.

What they probably mean is they won't accept a "Xerox" copy. A certified copy should be good enough. If they plan to keep them in your file, you'll need a certified copy of yours, too. Call them and clarify, and ask to make sure they will accept a certified copy. If they don't, IMO they're too picky since there are a lot of legitimate reasons people may not have an original and a ceritified copy would be the only thing available for a lot of people.

Phew! OK, I called and after some pressing, they said a certified copy would be fine. I told them it has a seal and all that stuff on it. She kept saying "original". Ugh.

I used a certified copy of my birth certificate for our homestudy. I just didn't even question that it would be a problem and it was never an issue.
Good luck on your homestudy.

We didn't need a birth certificate for our homestudy. What do they want proof you were born??? I think it's a silly thing.
