My husband and I are just starting to do our research on options for starting our family. We had been leaning toward international adoption until we heard about surrogacy. It seems like the surrogate could be a better option, but we are still confused. Any suggestions? Have any of you tried to make a similar decision?

We never considered it, but I wanted to bump this for you so others may have a chance to respond.

I haven't tried, but personally I'd be leery about it, because if nothing else, the surrogate mother could choose to parent the child, in which case it's not guaranteed that you would be granted custody by the courts. Just that fact would make it not worth it for me personally - it may still be for you.

I would find a lawyer in your jurisdiction who has experience with this kind of situation, and make sure you know exactly what your rights are, if you were gonna go that route.
