How about adopting from another state?
Is it possible to adopt from another state?
Hubby and I have tried the state system in our own state four years ago. It is a night mare. Latest stats say kids languish in foster care for 3 1/2 years, and many longer. They also require the couple to drive over 100 miles one way for a three hour class on work evenings, once a weekfor two months. With our work scheules, we would have to leave work a few hours early, and be a few hours late the next day for two months, which is kinda not a good way to keep ajob to support ourselves, much less a child. We have found one potential agency that we can qualify for, but not sure based on the costs. Any Suggestions? |

Most domestic adoptions are across state lines
There are many agencies that offer options for domestic adoption with very few restrictions on parent qualifications (except you have to have an approved home study from your own state). I don't think we can post names of agencies, but go online or get an adoption magazine and start calling around to compare. Almost all domestic adoption agencies do multi-state placements, most working with all states.

I'm not sure I understand this point: Are you asking about adopting through the state foster system in another state; or through another agency---privately---in another state?
If you are asking about the system: Yes, you can receive placements through other states, though, as the above poster states, you have to have an approved homestudy (and usually a foster care to adopt license in place as well). If you are asking about private adoptions: Yes. We just did this ourselves, as a matter of fact. Again, most of the time, you have to have your homestudy; and in our state, you also have to have that approved license in order to 'cross state lines to adopt'. We just brought home another infant this month from a state quite a distance from here. However, we were interested in this particular state, because we have a lot of friends and family who reside there too (making the costs for staying there, much less expensive). If you would like, I'd be glad to send to you my own list of adoption agencies I've done some investigating about. Many agencies need families who are wanting to adopt AA babies (as we were). Please PM me if this might help you. Sincerely, Linny |

I just read your message and I would love for to PM me some of the agencies you have researched. My husband and I are having a difficult time choosing the right agency. By the way we are hoping to adopt domestically. Thanks for your help with this.
