Adopting while being posted overseas??

Hello, I'm new here. I found this site while searching for information about adopting while being posted in Germany.

My husband and I had just started the adoption process last year when out of the blue he got posted to Germany. At first we thought we'd wait until our return to Canada in 2011 to start the process again but have since decided that we don't want to wait. We would like to know if it's possible to adopt either internationally or from Canada while we are here. We have heard of people who have done this before but have no contact information on them. Has anyone here done this or heard of anyone who has sucessfully done this? I've emailed almost every adoption agency in Canada looking for answers but nothing yet. I'm in the process of communicating with the ministry but haven't heard back yet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Evelyn

adoption while overseas

My husband and I are living in the Netherlands (US citizens) and are just starting the process of choosing an agency and also are looking for information about adopting while overseas. I will let you know if I find any information. I hope someone out there has gone through this situation and can help. Good luck.
Melissa

Stationed in Germany...

DH and I are stationed in Germany (also US citizens), and currently on the waiting list for a little girl in Ethiopia... We have completed all of the steps here, and would be happy to share info, if you are in need. Best of Luck!

Have you chosen an agency? Are you going the domestic or international route? My husband and I are looking for info on domestic adoption. He is Air Force and we currently live in Italy. I see info on international adoption while stationed overseas but not much on stateside and the agencies willing to work with overseas US citizens.

Starr.... I'm not sure how it would work for a citizen of South Africa.... I would think that you would need to check into the adoption laws of South Africa.... I know as US citizens, (at least stationed overseas with US Govt) we fall under laws of our 'home of record' states.
For Meaton....
In the early stages of our adoption, we contemplated going the US Domestic route. We were told by a DCFS social worker in PA, that we would be able to adopt through foster care (we had a child in mind)... even while stationed overseas. I'm not sure about private agencies.... I think it is best to call around, or email them directly for information. I can't see why they WOULDN'T work with you!
You will need to have a home study done.... We used an independent licensed social worker to do ours in Germany.... (Let me know if you would like more info) We found out, that some agencies will accept this, and some will not.... So before you start your home study, be sure to check with the agency you intend to use.
Good Luck to both of you!
