Adoption from foster care?

My DH and I are considering the option of adopting from foster care. We really want a baby and we had our hearts set on adoptiong from China at one time but then found out it wasn't possible because of my alcoholism and the fact that I hadn't been sober long enough to suit the Chinese government. It was a very painful time for me to accept that because I really put a lot of hope in it. We haven't really sat down with a domestic agency. I suppose I am just terrified that I will run into more road blocks. I know adopting from foster care will be easier but there will be many problems to encounter after adoption, as these children have had so much heartache already and there are so many attachment issues, etc, etc.

I wanted to know if anyone here had adopted from foster care and what their experience was. TIA.
