So... apparently this lawyer we went and met today was not a very open minded guy.... I swear he was acting like we were an inconvenience.... he kept stressing how much money adoption was (which we know.... ) and then preceeded to tell us that he thought our agency wasn't a good idea (b/c the price wasn't what he thought it should be..... but after my research, it seems like a great agency to me...) he really did not answer very many questions, did not explain anything legally to us, and just treated us like we were a waste of time..... we walked out of there feeling disheartened and upset.... I know we are younger than most people pursuing adoption, but seriously, he has no right to judge us for knowing what we want! We have another meeting tomorrow with another lawyer, whom our agency does recommend..... I was just frustrated afterward because I felt like he did not help us out at all today.... he only reiterated things I've already found out on my own research.....

My first question to you would be to wonder if this attorney was strictly an adoption attorney, or one that only included adoption in his other cases?

Is he also a Quad A attorney--American Academy of Adoption attorneys? This by no means guarantees a great attorney, but it's a good measure to have one that is this well versed in adoption law and practice.

And finally, there are jerks as attorneys, just like some agencies who shouldn't even exist, as far as I'm concerned. I hope that you'll find a good attorney, as well as a good agency!
