Hi! I'm Dawn and I just wanted to introduce myself.... my husband and I are starting the adoption process and are very excited to learn as much as possible! Our home study should take place in september, and hopefully then we'll be well on our way to becoming a family of 3!

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Especially if anyone has any knowledge or experience with adopting while in the military.

an agency, but they don't actively search for us... we do the searching. they have provided us with a lot of different resources and ideas on how to search for a birth mom. I am just really excited to start the homestudy!! My husband is gone until September for training, so we have to wait until then.

Congratulations on your decision to adopt! We are nearly to the final stage and I would suggest completing the home study as quickly as possible. Somethimes things happen very quickly and you need to be ready! Good luck on your adoption.

Hi Dawn,

Congratulations on your decision to search for a birth mother on your own. That can often be a very quick way to get matched, but most people are inhibited by it. I suggest that, if time is of the essence to you and you have the budget, that you consider also signing up with additional agencies and attorneys so that you have multiple sources searching for a match for you at once. Some agencies/attorneys will even allow you to submit your Profile to their pool with no fees due until you're matched - so it's a great way to expand your visibility. Just make sure that you focus your efforts in states that don't allow the birth parents to revoke their consent - it can save a lot of heartache.
