Will husband's medical condition be a problem?

My husband and I are just starting the adoption process (for international), and I've read that some of the information the agency/social worker will gather is medical information. My husband has a genetic disorder which can be quite serious but in his case is well monitored and manageable. I am starting to worry, though, that someone in the adoption process will be overly concerned about this. (I am trying to get life insurance for him squared away, and those companies are sure a pain about it--I figure if I can get them to understand this, I can get anyone to!)

Do you think I should worry? Has anyone else out there adopted with medical issues in one spouse? Is there anything I can do to help the process? Should I mention it to agencies right away as we decide on one?

Thanks for any advice . . .

My husband has medical issues.
You have to be able to get a Dr. to sign off that you each will be able to live a normal life and be able to raise a child.
We are adopting from Guatemala.

I'm an adoptive mom and I have a chronic (genetic) illness that is well-managed.

We adopted our 2 children (our youngest is just 1 month old) domestically. We did get into great detail about my health status in our homestudy. Mostly in terms of our plans for if I become more ill and end-of-life planning (we had to consider what kinds of supports my husband would have in place to help him if my health worsens or if I pass away). When we were researching international vs domestic, many foreign countries and international adoption agencies were clearly not open to a prospective adoptive parent with a medical condition no matter what my doctor said about my prognosis.

Feel free PM or email me if you want to discuss this further offline. I am happy to share my experiences and help if there's anyway I can.

Good luck in your adoption journey.
