After being turned down for a China adoption because my husband had testicular cancer (even though he has a clean bill of health 6 mo. later) we have had the good fortune to
meet a woman who runs an orphanage in Liberia who would love to help us adopt one or more children from there. However, we were disqualified from the China adoption in the middle of the home study, so we will need to start all over. My question is- I have been told by an attorney that Massachusetts is an Agency-only state, so we must work with a local agency in order to adopt even though we have located the kids on our own. Does anyone know of an agency that handles adoptions from Liberia, or else an agency that is willing to do our home study and post placement even if we handle all the other details?
I would appreciate any advice or referrals- We have been trying for over 9 years now and just want to find our children and bring them home!

Are you sure the agency has to be located in MA? I'm not certain of all the laws but we live in MA and are using a local agency for a domestic adoption. The agency had a China program that they recently ended and transferred all the waiting couples to a NY agency. I think the MA agency is doing homestudies but the adopting couples are dealing with the NY staff. If all you need is to go through an agency, there is one called Acres of Hope in OH that has a Liberian program. I sent you a pm as well. Good luck!
