not too many kids available??

I want to adopt because I feel why have kids when that just means another out there will never know a permanent, loving home.

But looking at photolistings, it seems there ARENT many kids to adopt. When and if I do adopt (which won't be for at least 3-5 years), I would like a healthy girl- age 3-6.

When I searched for this age group in all of the United States, all I got was maybe 2 children, with severe disabilities. I am single and will be a fulltime preschool teacher (not making a lot!) so I would not be able to afford to care for a child with severe disabilities. Things like mild to moderate learning disabilities I could live with.

Are these photolistings ALL the children there are who are waiting to be adopted?

Also, since I have a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, and I have taken classes on "Exceptional" students, child development, etc... would I still have to go through all the training required?

Thanks!

The photolistings are definitely not all of the children that are available. Many children are adopted by their foster families, or are adopted by families which the social worker already had homestudies for.

You will need to make a list of disabilites that you will consider, and those that you will not both physical and mental.

You would need to take all of the training, they don't make exceptions on that.
