Hi Annakelsey, and welcome!
I'm not sure how you would define "younger couple" or "young mom." DH is almost 30 and I'm 29. I consider myself young on some days, but also I'm so scared that I still won't have our first child by the time I turn 30! Still, I know there are many wonderful couples and women on here in their 30's and 40's. So...I guess you'll have to define "younger." That's great that you are reading and researching all that you can! This site is a wonderful resource, as well as many other websites out there. Also, I've pretty much read every adoption book at my local library! This is a great place for those questions that just can't be answered in a book or on a website. Take Care, --L.

Anna, I am 24 and dh is 25. We are currently waiting with a domestic agency. A lot of agencies require the couple to be 25. I am only six months away, so they did not mind. (Plus we are doing AA / biracial and they have been having more trouble finding families, so they bend the rules a little more!!) If you have any specific questions, let me know. I would be happy to share any info with you!

I just turned 30. My son was 5 days old when he came home. He is now 16 months and 3 weeks, as of today. I'm in the final stages of adopting him via fost/adopt.
I'm also paperchasing for a sister for him from Vietnam. Yash |

Well, it looks like we are the youngest (at least so far!). DH is 24 and I just turned 25. We're definitely getting started on the younger side, but we are excited and can't wait to have our little ones home!
If you decide to adopt internationally and you're young like us, here's a tip. Some countries have an age requirement that is older, but for the United States if you are married you only have to be 21 years old to adopt. A lot of agencies tried to tell us that we were too young, but that's just not the case. Good luck!

I'm 27, and DH is 25. I wouldn't consider us terribly "young" for this area of the country but for many other areas we would be considered very young. We are hopefully going to mail our agency the homestudy paperwork tomorrow. We've had a LONG wait on the physicals but we finally got those today (had to drive out there and get them because they were supposed to be mailed last Monday and they weren't going to get mailed until at least tomorrow
dumb doctor's office people. We are hopefully doing a domestic adoption, newborn preferably, any race, and we are hoping for a girl. Nice to meet everyone! ![]()

Ditto, I'd be curious to know more about Lillian . . . what your plans are, etc. I know there is a lot of conflicting and biased information out there. I promise not to be judgemental or anything. Just curious and happy to offer any help that I can. Cheers, L.

Well we are young too!! I am 22 (23 May 31st) and my dh is 23. We are in the process of a homestudy with our agency since February 2006. We have been married 4 years in June and have been ttc for 3 years (infertility). We considered international (Guatemala was the only choice due to age) but due to costs, went with domestic open adoption. Feel free to PM me, we had many people tell us we're too young and to enjoy life but we feel very very ready!!

HI! We are young, too. I am 26 and DH is 29. He can SO see the top of the hill!!
We were just beginning our infertility journey when our son just sort of fell out of the sky. We put the meds and stuff on hold and decided to pursue adoption.I think that we can have just as strong of a desire to have children as people who are more "mature". We have gotten a few off the wall comments, but I just smile and say...I am so sorry you feel that way, but my son lives in Nicaragua and this is what I have to do to bring him home. Stops 'em dead. BTW...for all of you who would be interested in International Adoption but are turned away because of the costs, I have a wonderful country where you can adopt for less than half of most IA countries. The only drawback is that you have to do all the work yourself. I have found that the most rewarding part, because I have been involved the WHOLE TIME!! No anxiously waiting. Well, not that much anxiously waiting. OK!!! I have been a little anxious.........this is my baby we are talking about!!! PM me if you want more info. I LOVE NICA!! yes, this is the same kid. they shaved his head between my visit trip and pick up. rest assured, it is growing back.

New to process - also young
My husband and I are both 25, we just started the entire process and filled out all of the initial forms with Gladney. We aren't sure which route will will go, probably domestic, but are open to international as well. Just waiting to hear from them on what they think will work well for us. I'd really like to hear about everyone's experiences so far. Like I said, we are totally new to this, so I'm like a sponge with information! Looking forward to learning more about all of you and getting to know each other better!

BBCDFW,
I'm going the international route over the domestic route for various reasons. One, private domestic adoption seems to be more and more open and I'm not down with open adoption. Also as a single mom, I wasn't too sure if another single mom would chose me to parent her child. And last, I would live in fear until parental rights were terminated. I wouldn't want to jump and down with joy only to have the birthmother change her mind. With international adoption, yes, the paperchase can be long, grueling, and filled with bureaucracy but I know at the end of the day I will have a child in my hands. Once I'm in Vietnam, my agency will put in my arms, I'm praying, a precious infant girl whom I will call Layla. Just my thoughts, Yash- who is paperchasing for Layla |

I will be 27 in June and DH will be 30 in September. We are taking our classes now to adopt from the foster care system. We are the youngest by far in our classes.
