Hi everyone,
We need some advice on a rather sensitive subject. DH and I are about to start our autobiographical statements for our homestudy. We are both concerned about the questions that are asked about our childhood, while we both, for the majority of the time, had great childhoods there was abuse for both of us. Sexual abuse in my childhood (by a non family member) and alcholol abuse in DH. We're really not sure how to disclose this or even if we should. We want to be open and we would like to state that this has happened but that we have both dealt with it in a healthy manner. We would just like to see what you guys think. Thanks for all your support! Hugs Saran

Just what you wrote should be fine: that it happened and that you've both dealt with the abuse in a healthy way.

My husband is a recovering alcoholic and we did disclose that. First neither of us likes to lie and we figured somewhere along the way one of us would mess up. They just wanted to know that he was and still is dealing with properly. He had to write a letter about it and have his sponsor or someone who knew him before, during, and after his recovery. I think it is better to be upfront about it then to have it come back and bite you in the bum later. Good luck and everything will work out fine.

Thanks guys for all your reponses. We're going to talk it over a bit more but we would prefer to be open and honest then try to hide it.
