Question International couple want to adopt internationally

Hi--There is a lot of fantastic information and advice on this forum.

My husband (French) and I (Canadian) living in France, but probably moving to the Middle East soon would like to adopt internationally.

We're really not sure where to start and would love advice or tips from others in a situation similar to ours.

DH has read up on French laws and I've read some but not all federal Canadian laws--not to mention individual provincial law--regarding adoption. Can I just say: GASP!

In our case, should we start with an agency that specializes in adoption from specific countries? Or contact an adoption lawyer first? Chances are we won't live in either of our home countries for a few years once we move, but we'd like to get the process started now.

Any thoughts, suggestions, links, etc would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I don't know what information you may have found out so far, but my husband and I are in a similar boat. He is of Belgian citizenship (permanent US resident) and I am of American citizenship and we would like to do an international adoption. Many agencies and countries seem to require the parents to be of the same citizenship is what we are finding out.

Don't give up! We went through this, too, and managed to adopt ... twice.
