Smile Domestic Adoption - fingerprints?

I was just wondering if we're required to get fingerprinted for a domestic adoption? Or is it just a criminal background check? And if fingerprinting is required, can I go get that done before we even start the homestudy, or will it be considered invalid? I just want to get a head start on anything I can! Thanks!

Hi Watermellon,

In my state it is required to be fingerprinted since it is needed for the background check. We had ours done thermally in the criminal justice office. It really is amazing how it is done. I would also round up some official documents such as you marriage license and birth certificates. The "adoption for dummies" book was very helpful for me and a great guide in helping to decide what type of adoption to consider. Good luck to you on your adoption.

Daisy's right about the book!

I don't recall getting fingerprinted - we had homestudy done/approved by a private agency and the state. I think they just ran our criminal check.....

I'm foster/adopt. I had to get fingerprinted for foster home clearnance. But when I straight adopt, I won't need to have that done again.

We live in PA and did not need fingerprints when we did our homestudy. DD was born in NY and they wanted them, so we got them done in NY.

PA required child abuse clearance along w/ state police criminal check. I'm not sure if other states do as well.
