this is my first post here. i am a single parent (divorced) to 4 wonderful children ages 11 - 19. i have been a single parent for over 6 years. i have 2 biological children and 2 step children that i adopted 12 years ago. i am 49 years old. i now hope to adopt a foreign child. i find lots of info on the net but little specific to my situation. can you all help me sort though this maze? tia

There are programs out there that you can adopt from – you mentioned International, but didn’t indicate a preference for country…

Russia (and most other Easter European countries) do not allow single males to adopt, but there are other countries out there that do.

What age are you hoping for?
Is race/gender an issue?

Sadly, it is becoming increasingly harder for single males to adopt abroad, due to the many stereotypes regarding single male adoption being reinforced recently in the media.

You mentioned that your children are older…if you’re hoping to adopt an older child, you might consider a waiting child from the US foster care system.

Do what I did and contact every adoption agency that you can and then ask them if they work with single men and if they do which countries will allow that. There are ALOT of adoption agencies out there so keep a running list of who say yes and who says no or you'll get yourself confused. I won't lie and tell you it's easy (as I am still going through it) but there are agencies out there that have been successful in placing children with a single male. You just have to weed through all the discrimination to get to them. If you would like to know what adoption agencies have said yes to me and the one i'm currently working with then PM me! i am hoping to adopt a boy age 2-6 prefer eastern europe but have no strong preference,asian ,hispanic and mixed race all ok.
