There are a few things that I'm worried will get in the way of us adopting in the future or reflect badly on us, and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if I should be concerned.
1) I write a sex column for a local paper. I'm a freelance writer, that's what I do for a living, and I write this column under a pen name (though it is just my middle name and maiden name). I do plan to be open with my kids about it, though not share the subject matter in detail or anything like that. I just believe in being open with kids about sex in an age appropriate manner.
2) (sex again :O) DH and I have a bit of a freaky past. Nothing serious, no BDSM stage shows or anything, just ... okay, threesomes. Kind of embarrassing. Anyway, we haven't done that since we became pregnant with our daughter, and would never bring someone to the house or anything. I don't even know if it is something we're interested in doing again in the future.
My concern is whether either of these issues will be addressed or be strikes against us. We are considering open adoption, and it seems like many bparents look for religious, conservative homes (maybe that is a misconception on my part), which we are not. We do have a strong spirituality and offer a stable, loving home.
Any thoughts?

I'm adopting my foster sons but there was a background check done. Nothing about sexual habits came up. I did have to give a work-related reference; not sure if this person was contacted or not. HTH
