Question regarding finalization
My husband and I were blessed with our angel on November 1, 2005. We should finalize in early May. My question is, how long does it take to get the new birth certificate? We're flying for a family get together on May 25th and I need to make sure I have the neccesary documents to travel with him.
Thanks all and good luck to those still on your journey! ![]()

We are in maryland and waited for 6months. Here's a clue: find out what state he was born and go directly to the dept of vital records, took us 15minutes in person!

Thanks! I wish I could do that, but he was born in Oklahoma and we're in Tennessee!
If we don't have the new one (which sounds like we won't), I'll just take his original one and the adoption decree. That should work, right?!

I think w/ the adoption decree and his old BC you should have no problems. You might just want to call the airline to make sure.
We finalized in May and got their BC in Nov. Happy123 |

We adopted from the same state in which we live. We didn't get to see the original BC. We got our new one in 6-8 weeks.

I just finalized yesterday in CA. They told us it would take 8-9 months to get a BC. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for the good advice! We had our final post placement visit today (AMEN!!) and should finalize soon. We're going to get him an ID card to eliminate the worry for this travel ... I get stressed at the thought of explaining a birth certificate and decree of adoption (assuming we have one right away) to the airline workers already dealing with way too many things!
Best wishes to all!
