refused by agency

we just found out that our agency will not send our info to china; they decided that my husband's alcohol use (which ended over 10 years ago) and my use of antidepressant for panic attacks will cause china to refuse us, so they closed our file. are we blacklisted now, or can we try another agency? our social worker gave us the "highest recommendation possible," by the way! so discouraged...

You might try some other agencies,

do you have another country as a backup plan?

I remember from my research on different countries that it goes against an agency's record with China if China finds that they sent a file that they would reject. For that reason, sometimes the agency is even pickier than the country will be.

I would call and query other agencies first, but maybe ask your current agency if they have ideas about other programs.

Guatemala might be a good option.

I hope you find an answer soon,
D.

thank you for the answer...that makes sense that the agency might be pickier than the country...we are open to other countries. Thanks again!

Are you set on international? We adopted domestically and my husband too had an issue with alcohol and all we had to do was some letters explaining things for our social worker. Good luck.

You might want to look into Vietnam. They have reopened and VERY active at the moment They are more laid back about many things then China is : Age, Sex, Marriage status etc. They might be a good option for you also.

Best of LUCK!!

While China generally has no problems with mild anxiety or depression treated with meds and/or talk therapy, it is very concerned about alcoholism, even if a person has been sober for quite some time.

China has become even more strict than ever in the past few months. It is rapidly approaching the point where it has enough healthy people applying, especially for NSN children, that it can be choosy. Hence, while you can try other China agencies, you may well hear the same story.

You may want to consider other international programs.
