April '06 Domestic Waiting Thread
I've been watching the other US Adoption waiting thread, but don't really feel like popping in there because it's been up long enough to have the talk shift from waiting to having new babies. That's really wonderful, but...
...I'd like to see if people who have recently begun waiting would like a new thread. If you do, introduce yourself. I'd love to be able to talk to people who are in the same place as me! Me: 33, married and waiting for a match. We recently finished our home study and are in a program at our agency for AA and BR infants. I've only been waiting for a few weeks, but it seems like forever and sometimes I wonder if it really will go as quickly as the agency says (1 week to 6 months). Secretly--well, not so secretly--I'm hoping that the match will be soon so that I can take advantage of some FMLA leave and our summer break (my husband and I both teach). Normally, summer is full of other kinds of work, but we'd drop it all for a baby!

I agree - its time to start a new waiters thread! My husband and I will be officially waiting in a few weeks. We are all done with the paperwork and just need to get through several weeks of SW interviews and then we'll be put into the waiting pool of families!! I'm so excited to have the WORK of the adoption paperwork and interviews be done and just get back to my regular daily life while we wait. DH is just sure we'll get picked right away, but I think it will take some time and I'm actually looking forward to spending these last few months being selfish and spending time on DH and me. I'm TOTALLY ready to give that all up and be a mommy, but until then I'm going to enjoy some ME time!

That's interesting--my husband thought the same thing before we started the wait. The first weekend we were "official" he practically waited by the phone. I, on the other hand, feel like being a pessimist is the best route in this situation; it will be a wonderful suprise if it does happen earlier than I'm hoping for.
How many SW interviews do you plan to have, Alison? We only had two--and they only lasted three hours, at that.

Hi!
I'm currently waiting to be matched as well!!! It's been about 8 or 9 months and I am going CRAZY!!! We are in the domestic infant program with an agency. In the beginning, I thought it would be about 10 months, but now I'm starting to think that it will be a little longer. I'm just trying to stay realistic. I agree that I am ready to give up EVERYTHING to become a mommy, but in the meantime, we are trying to enjoy life and not sit by the phone. At first, we did a really good job.....going out all the time, vacations, etc. The waiting is definitely starting to have an impact on our lives now, but we are just tying to keep trucking along!!! I am 30 and work full-time and have a really busy schedule and my husband is 33 and is a high school coach, so he is very busy as well. We, too were hoping that our placement would fall around the summer so that my husband could be home with the baby all summer, but we'll just have to wait and see about that!!! Thanks for starting this new thread and I look forward to "meeting" all of you!

Hi, I will join. DH and I will be waiting in a few weeks too, well we are kind of waiting now. We are not adopting an infant though, we are trying to adopt a little girl who is 5. They are having her hearing and TPR in beginning of May, we will know something then. We received a preliminary approval from our SW in order to be considered for her.

athena09 - that's SO exciting that you already know who your daughter will be! I wish you the very best in her hearing and TPR process!
bohtieque - I think we are supposed to have 4 meetings total - one together at the agency, one each alone at the agency and 1 together in our home! I'm hoping we're all done and approved shortly after Mother's Day (which would be a great present for me ![]() We have a vacation scheduled for the first week of June and I will be competing in a plus-sized pageant the last weekend of July. Then I realy need to visit my godson in MN in August...so that should keep me busy for a while. I think the hardest time for me will be Christmas - but maybe by then it won't be an issue

MommyBear - Unfortunately, we don't know for sure that we will get her yet. We are hoping to but there are a few other families that are also being reviewed for her. I am hoping, praying and have everthing crossed.

Hi Ladies, May I join your waiting group? We have been officially waiting for 3 weeks now.....we had 2 phone calls from our websites, but nothing worked out,,,so here we are waiting......We are planning on looking for baby furniture soon, but decided not to order anything yet....it's is so hard to not know when this may happen. If I were pregnant, I would know how long I had, but this is just so nerve racking not knowing....http://forums.adoption.com/images/icons/icon7.gif..

Okay, I will join also! My dh and I have been officially approved and waiting for about 3 weeks now. We are using an agency and they also said 1 week to 6 months for the wait. I assumed it would happen the first week. I got my work prepared for a sudden departure, I told the fam it would be quick, etc. However, my dh has reined me in some and keeps trying to tell me it will be more like 6 months. (I think he would rather I be pleasently surprised by a shorter wait instead of upset by a longer one.) Anyway, it is official and I am doing okay except when the phone rings! My heart does this little leap and I feel like I am going to throw up. Then I look at caller ID and go back to normal!!!

Marci - LOL, your description of your reaction to the phone ringing totally reminds me of how I used to feel back in my early dating days when I knew a cute boy was going to call!!!!

Hello!! I just wanted to introduce myself and see if I too could join in! I am part of a thread on another site but it's an infertility board so it is nice to talk with others who are adopting! Okay, so here is my, very long i know, story:
Okay so I am 22 (23 in a month) and dh is 23. We met in high school and were married at 19. We started trying pretty quickly, although not very hard, a year later we thought maybe something is wrong, went to see a dr, dh did a test, came out a little low but fine. Then we moved from KS to TX so we waited about 4 - 5 months and then started going to a dr here. Well they thought i didn't ovulate, then after four months found out, after a retest, dh had WAY more issues. Six months later, he had varicocele surgery, waited a year to get results, came out bad, then worse. We decided to take time off trying or anything and focus on US, then eventually we will adopt. Then he retested for his year anniversary after surgery and it was really good. So, we decided to try again (even though by this point i was done trying and just wanted to adopt). It was horrible, my body didn't react at ALL to any medicine. So, after three excrutiating months of shots, and more shots, we stopped and HE decided that he wanted to adopt. So, I researched and researched and did more, we decided on international adopting from Guatemala, then to adopt biracially, then to adopt domestic, then to adopt privately, then finally domestic. So, we joined a little Catholics agency in KS, did a private homestudy, about three days after we joined the agency, we found out they had lied to us about cost, about 5,000 at LEAST difference AND they weren't an "agency" per say but a "facilitator". So, we went with our gut feeling and first choice and joined our agency we have now here in Dallas. They are a open adoption agency that is also a maternity home. They encourage parenting first, which is great, and do TONS of counseling for the birth moms AND adoptive parents. The only problem is they are pretty slow moving. We joined in February and had to redo our homestudy with them, well we are still waiting on it to get approved to the next step where we go to an office visit, then go to a 2 day seminar, then get a profile together, then a home visit, THEN we can be presented to birthmom's. WHEW did you get all that? LOL Anyway I am really excited about it all and trying my darndest not to get impatient.....but we all know how well that goes!!Natalie

OMG the phone ringing thing is sooo funny, i can't wait to begin actually WAITING, I think it will happen fairly quickly, although don't dare say it out loud, dh is the pessimist definetely!! :-)
