Newbie
Hi everyone!!! My husband and I have 2 beautiful little boys and have always talked of adopting a child at some point in our lives. Lately, God has really been putting it on our hearts and minds to go for it!!! We talked seriously about it this morning and decided to wait for a few months to get some financial stuff straightened out, and then pursue adoption of a little boy between the ages of 5-8. I'm excited and nervous. I have a good friend who adopted 2 precious little children, a brother and a sister after fostering them for several months. These kids are so special to our family, they're like my own kids. They are the reason we want to adopt. We know there are so many children out there who need a loving home. I have so many questions that I don't even know where to begin, but I hope you'll all welcome me to the board!!

Welcome Beth! I hope your adoption journey is smooth for your family. I'm not much help as we are in Canada, but if you are interested in an older child, contact your local Children & Family Services. They should be able to help you... Best of everything...

I wish you good luck in your journey. I am waiting to be matched with a birth family and love coming here for support and information. I work for a non-profit organization that provides group and foster homes for kids and we certify a lot of couples that are looking to foster/adopt children. It's a wonderful thing that you two are doing!!! Make sure and post all of your questions/fears/concerns and I promise you will get a lot of feedback!!

Beth - WELCOME!!! My husband and I too are just starting this process. We are trying to adopt a 6 year old little girl. I live in MD. Definately contact your local Department of Social Services, that is who we are going through in our state.

  Adoptee adopting Started process 2/1/06- Orientation Class 2/16/06 - 1st home visit 3/9/06 - Health Dept visit - PASSED 3/17/06 - Fire marshall - PASSED 4/10/06 - 2nd home visit Reference letters mailed and autobiographies mailed 4/24/06 - PRIDE classes started 6/19/06 - Finished PRIDE classes 6/21/06 - Last home visist to meet my foster SW 7/21/06 - APPROVED AND WAITING!!!!! 8/1/06 - Two sisters placed - V age 6 and S age 2 8/4/06 - Sisters had to be removed to great foster mom who has the time to invest.

Hi Beth, I am new here, too. My hubby and I are taking two years to get our financial stuff in order, raise money, etc. before we begin our paperwork. We want to adopt a daughter from China. I have received such a warm welcome here. I'm sure you will too.

We live in Maryland too. While we have spent the last year researching, we are fairly new to the process too. We have taken our time so as to be ready, now we are bursting with anticipation and excitment!
