Changing Name
I have seen a couple posts on name changes of adopted children but nothing specific. Is it a good idea or even suggested to change a child's name that is coming from the foster system? I am just curious if it would be suggested so that parents who may have resent can't find them. Any advice on this or any other issues would be greatly appreciated. I am looking to adopt a little girl between 5 and 6 years old.
Thanks a bunch!!!!

I think it would depend on the age of the child. We have discussed this and we plan to talk to the child about how she feels about changing her name. If she chooses to change her name that is fine. We are hoping to get a child between 5 and 9 years old. So we may just give the child a family name for her second name and if she chooses to go by that name that is fine.
I also think that you need to keep some of the child's original name. They don't suddenly forget their past or their old name once they are adopted by you! |

I agree to not take their past away 100%! I also agree with them having a say in their name. Kind of like in the movie Big Daddy, the little boy wanted to be called Frankenstein.LOL!!
I was just wondering if it was reccommended in problem cases. The little girl we are trying to adopt has a beautiful 1st name, I love it so probably would not want to change her name anyway. I was just looking for opinions.

We began to call our little one by a different name when she was only months old, now she knows that name from me and the foster kids in our home call her by her real name. I am trying to cover both bases at this point. We will most likely have her real name first then ours as a middle name. It was a bit tricky at the beginning with even a little one, I would think this would be very hard with a 5 or 6 yr old.
